To be honest, it's hard to really understand what DJs do. I’d like to introduce an overview and some of the techniques they use.

1. What Does a DJ Do?

To put it simply, a DJ selects tracks that suit the specific event or vibe, and depending on their playing style, their main task is to ensure there is a seamless transition between songs. While this task may seem simple, it requires precise techniques and skills in various areas, which we'll explore here.

2. Basic DJ Techniques

1. Playback of music

The DJ plays songs suited to the event or location. Considering BPM (tempo) and key, the DJ plans how to transition between tracks and creates a setlist accordingly.

2. Mixing

Using a DJ mixer, the DJ applies techniques like beatmatching (aligning the tempo and beats of different tracks) and crossfading (adjusting the volume of the current and next tracks using a fader) to ensure a smooth flow of music. Effects are also applied when needed. A common method is "long mixing," where the DJ keeps the tempo of the current track and the next one synced for several bars before transitioning smoothly.

3. Equalizing

DJs adjust the equalization (the balance of sound frequencies) of tracks to fit the equipment and environment. These adjustments often change during mixing.

3. Summary of DJ Techniques

In addition to these, DJs may use multiple sources with techniques like "blending" or "juggling/trick play," and "cut-in," where they quickly switch to the next track using a fader. However, the primary focus remains on mixing. While DJ styles vary, the key to success is selecting the right tracks for the event and understanding the audience's preferences to ensure everyone enjoys the experience.
