In this issue, we would like to introduce a live set-up for the use of sound equipment.

1.What is the role of the mixer?

The mixer is a device used to combine or blend audio signals, and amplify them if necessary. It is broadly classified into analog mixers and digital mixers, and is used in various audio-related applications such as DJing, music production, and live performances. The functions are divided as follows:

Channel

A mixer typically has multiple channels. Each channel is for processing different audio sources (such as microphones, instruments, or playback devices), and each has input sockets and adjustment knobs.

Input

Each channel has multiple inputs, including XLR (for microphones), TRS (for line-level or instruments), and RCA (for playback devices) inputs.

Preamp

The microphone input has a preamp. This amplifies weak microphone signals to a level that can be processed by the mixer.

Equalizer

Each channel has an equalizer that allows you to adjust bass, midrange, and treble. This helps to adjust the sound balance and deal with feedback or noise.

Fader

Each channel has a fader to adjust the volume. The master fader controls the overall volume.

Effect Send

Each channel has an effect send, which sends the signal to an external effect processor. This allows you to add effects like reverb or delay.

Bus

A mixer has a bus to group multiple channels for processing. This allows for submixes and group processing.

Main Out

The main out is where the final mixed signal is taken from the mixer. It is typically connected to power amplifiers or speaker systems.

Monitor Section

The monitor section provides headphone jacks or monitor speakers to allow the artist or operator to monitor the signal from the mixer.

2.Standard Mixer Series

Depending on the size of the set, the most famous mid-size series in use are Behringer, Allen & Heath QU, Soundcraft Si Expression, and Yamaha TF.

3.About the mixer and each connection Summary

Mixers are indispensable for live sets and other sound-related applications.
We have introduced the basic functions of mixers, but there are many other functions and types of mixers that we would like to introduce on other occasions.
